Why Do We Get Brain Freezes?
That sudden, intense headache after eating ice cream or drinking something icy has a surprisingly simple explanation.
When something very cold touches the roof of your mouth, it can rapidly cool the blood vessels there. Your body responds by quickly changing blood flow, which can activate nearby pain receptors and create that sharp pain we call a brain freeze.
The good news? It usually disappears within seconds to a couple of minutes.
Next time it happens, slow down, stop eating the cold food for a moment, and let the roof of your mouth warm back up!
