🩺 Weekend Wellness Myth
❌ Myth: Coffee is always bad for your heart
✅ Reality: Not necessarily ☕️
For most people, moderate coffee consumption can fit into a heart-healthy lifestyle.
And what you add to your coffee matters too.
Cream → extra saturated fat and calories
Sugar → added sugar and calories
Syrups → often lots of added sugar and calories
The 2026 American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Statement notes that up to 400 mg of caffeine per day is generally considered safe for most adults. That’s roughly equivalent to 3–5 cups of coffee, depending on the coffee and serving size.
Again, there are caveats:
Most impactful studies measure coffee consumption, not isolated caffeine, so other compounds in coffee may contribute to the observed effects.
And much of the evidence is still observational, so residual confounding remains an important limitation.
Overall: Enjoy your coffee. Just be mindful of what you add to it.
