🩺 Weekend Wellness Myth
❌ Myth: Looking skinny = being healthy.
✅ Reality: You can be thin and still have high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, insulin resistance, or low muscle mass, and even have a heart attack.
People in larger bodies can also be metabolically healthy.
🔎 Visceral fat matters. Fat stored deep around the abdominal organs can contribute to insulin resistance, inflammation, and increased cardiovascular risk, even when someone’s BMI appears normal.
🔎 What about the obesity paradox?
Some studies find better survival among patients with overweight or obesity who already have certain cardiovascular diseases. This does NOT mean obesity is protective. Reverse causation, frailty, disease severity, and limitations of BMI may help explain this finding.
Appearance doesn’t tell the whole story.
Focus on the fundamentals:
🥗 Healthy nutrition
🏃 Cardio + resistance training
😴 Quality sleep
🚶 Regular physical activity
🩺 Check your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.
Genetics, inflammation, immune function, and the gut microbiome may also shape metabolic health. Research is ongoing.
💙 Don't judge health by appearance. Measure what matters.
