The First Chatbot Was Created in 1966 🤖
Long before ChatGPT, there was ELIZA, one of the earliest chatbots ever created. Developed by MIT professor Joseph Weizenbaum in 1966, ELIZA simulated conversations by recognizing keywords and responding with scripted phrases. One of its best-known programs acted like a therapist, asking users questions about their feelings.
The surprising part? Some people felt that ELIZA genuinely understood them, even though its responses were based on simple rules rather than real understanding.
From basic scripted conversations to today's AI assistants, chatbot technology has come a long way in just six decades.
