A few things to clarify:

This recall involves specific lots of compounded tirzepatide from Apothecary Pharma LLC due to a lack of assurance of sterility. It does not mean FDA-approved Mounjaro or Zepbound are included in this recall.

Compounded medications do not undergo the same FDA premarket review for safety, efficacy, and quality as FDA-approved drugs.

What about long-term safety?

Randomized trials have established important safety and efficacy data for FDA-approved GLP-1 medications. However, decades of continuous-use randomized-trial data are not available for every newer drug. Rare or delayed adverse effects may take longer to identify, which is why ongoing safety monitoring matters.
