🌧️ Flooding is a public health concern, not just a property concern

With flooding occurring in several parts of the world, it’s worth remembering that flood exposure can increase the risk of certain illnesses.

Evidence has linked flooding with:

🦠 Gastrointestinal infections and diarrhea

🦠 Legionnaires’ disease

🦠 Other intestinal infections

🦠 Leptospirosis

Floodwater can become contaminated with sewage, bacteria, and other infectious organisms. It can also contaminate drinking-water supplies and increase direct exposure to pathogens.

After flooding:

• Use safe drinking water

• Avoid contact with potentially contaminated floodwater

• Follow local health advisories

• Seek medical attention if concerning symptoms develop

Flood recovery is also health recovery
